Hello Friend, I'm Courtenay! |
Everyday living and a lifetime of learning on and off the mat are the raw materials from which I construct both a practice that nourishes me and a life I love. Throughout my travels on the yogic path which span over three decades, I have experienced firsthand the alchemical power of this life practice. While I am deeply grateful for the numerous body-mind-spirit benefits, the most profound gift of Yoga is the potential for inner transformation. At times it's instantaneous: a simple shift and I'm balancing on my hands, listening effortlessly, or parenting with grace. Mostly, it's incremental and after the hundredth (or thousandth) repetition, the old pain in my back, the grudge, or the reactivity disappears, giving space and the sweetest sense of freedom. It's ordinary awakenings like these, and my extraordinary teachers, guides, and fellow practitioners, that inspire my devotion to living and sharing Yoga.
I have studied and practiced in a range of traditions from Hatha, Anusara, Kundalini, Restorative, and Womb yoga and I offer an integrated approach to movement, breathwork, meditation, and self-care, rooted in the technologies of Yoga and the principles of Ayurveda. The tools range from asana, pranayama, meditation and mantra to self-massage, subtle body and energy work, sound healing and journaling. Insights gained from experience are woven with wisdom from ancient and modern sages. Inspiration is everywhere and the possibilities to practice are infinite; the techniques we use to find peace, clarity, and courage are the same on the mat and in life. At the heart of it all--my life, my practice, and my teaching--is the intention to nurture maitrī (my-tree) or lovingkindness. This unconditional friendliness is the foundation for being an awake, compassionate, and empowered human. It is said that we teach what we most need to learn, and I am no exception. My path through maitrī has been both challenging and unequivocally essential for living a radically whole-hearted life. It is a moment-to-moment practice and a lifelong endeavor. And it is my privilege, passion and purpose to share this journey with you. |
